From Feb 17-23, the Red Cross in Greater New York provided emergency assistance to 187 adults and 66 children following 50 local disasters. Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming activities. (See below)

• Over the weekend, Disaster Cycle Services team members from every group gathered at the Rockland County Fire Academy for a functional exercise.

• Last Thursday, the Norwood News reported on the Red Cross assisting 3 families after a 3-alarm fire on University Avenue in the University Heights section of the Bronx.
• We shared this video highlighting the Red Cross assisting 19 adults and 8 children after a fire on Rochambeau Ave in the Norwood section of the Bronx.
• Meet Team Red Cross runners Michael Gray and Kelly Van Hoesen who are running in the NYC Marathon to benefit the Red Cross.
• A heartwarming moment recently when our team visited Somers High School to assemble "Steph's Comfort Kits" in memory of Stephanie Crispinelli, a young radiant soul who tragically lost her life in the 2010 Haiti Earthquake.
• Last Tuesday, News 12 reported on the Red Cross assisting 10 adults and 6 children after a fatal fire on 67th street in Brooklyn.

• On Saturday, the leaders of this dedicated group gathered for the 2025 DAT Summit to share updates and information, mix and mingle across chapters, highlight best practices and celebrate accomplishments.
• We recently discovered this illuminating 1992 documentary from our VHS archives about the history of prominent African American leaders in the American Red Cross and decided to unveil it during #BlackHistoryMonth.
• Volunteer Sean McNerney, currently on deployment, shared an update from Los Angeles.
• The Staten Island Advance reported on State Sen. Scarcella-Spanton receiving the Red Cross Legislator of the Year award.
• Last Wednesday, Assembly member Claire Valdez thanked the Red Cross for assisting residents after a fire on 68th Rd in Ridgewood (Queens). CBS2, Queens Chronicle, and QNS reported on the fire.
• Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella met with GNY Regional CEO Doreen Thomann-Howe, the Regional CEO to discuss the ways the Red Cross responds to emergencies and how Borough Hall can help our mission.

• Last Sunday, News 12 reported on the Red Cross assisting a family after a fire on Ocean Avenue in Brooklyn.
• Heroes in Action! Last Saturday, 27 of our dedicated volunteers installed 120 alarms in 50 homes across Washington Heights as part of our Sound the Alarm campaign, which is celebrating 10 years of protecting families.
• News 12 reported on the Red Cross helping a family after a fire on Bainbridge Avenue in the Bronx.
• Last Thursday, NY Daily News, ABC7, and News 12 reported on the Red Cross assisting residents after a fatal fire on North Windsor Avenue in Bay Shore (Suffolk County).
• Last week, we had two impactful days at the NY State Capital, where nearly 50 Red Crossers, staff, and volunteers united from all corners of our state to engage with over 100 state legislators. Five New York State legislators were recognized for their commitment to the Red Cross mission. The Brooklyn Eagle reported on Sen. Scarcella-Spanton being one of the legislators honored.
• We are grateful Asw. Carrie Woener invited our biomedical services volunteers to the New York State Assembly Chamber to recognize all they do to make a difference in the lives of those in need.
