- The Greater NY Red Cross was out in force this weekend, to “sound the alarm” about home fires and installing smoke alarms in the Bronx and Peekskill. Special thanks to Peekskill Mayor Vivian McKenzie, Assemblywoman Dana Levenberg, Peekskill Fire Dept and Police Dept, Peekskill OEM, Congressman Mike Lawler, Senator Pete Harckham, Mira USA and all of our volunteers for their partnership and support!
- There was a great turnout on Saturday for Hands-Only CPR and First Aid training at Munger Cottage in Cornwall taught by our Preparedness Team.
- Last Friday, our Metro NY North team responded to three Westcheter fires in one day in White Plains, Yonkers, and Buchanan, opening two reception centers to help residents register for emergency assistance.
- Continuing our Women’s History Month series of profiles, last week, we featured Amanda Hayde, Takia A. Chandler, Lih-Fan Chang and Jennifer Pearsall.
- Last Wednesday, after a meet and greet with Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine, Suffolk County Legislators and #LIRedCross volunteers and board members helped raise the flag to celebrate March Red Cross month.
- Westchester County Executive George Latimer also joined with leaders from the Greater New York Region to celebrate Red Cross Month with a flag raising in White Plains.
- Last Tuesday, we gathered at our NYC headquarters to #sharethered and took the opportunity to celebrate just a few of our volunteers who have more than 25 years of service.
- #LIRedCross CEO Jose Dominguez shared his moving and historic experience of donating for the first time as a gay man with his husband Craig at the Jill and John Coyle Blood Center.
- During large disasters, the Red Cross is looking for licensed mental health professionals to support the emotional health of individuals, families, and communities.
- Apr 4-7: Save the date for our Disaster Ready Summit, which will be held at our GNY HQ in Manhattan and will feature courses such as Civilian Critical Casualty Care, Naloxone, We Were There, and Active Shooter Training. Contact GNY.DWE@redcross.org with questions.
