Over the last seven days, the Greater New York Red Cross has provided emergency assistance to 128 adults and 31 children following 41 local disasters. Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming activities. (See below)
Last Week in Review
- The Staten Island Advance reported on the Red Cross helping five families with emergency assistance after a large fire in Clifton.
- Last Friday, CBS NY reported on a large fire in Corona, noting that Red Cross responders were on hand to help. The Red Cross provided emergency assistance to six families, including 12 adults and 2 children.
- Join us in celebrating our volunteer team at West Point, who are always active in Red Cross efforts to support the cadets and the community after a 4-day blood drive.
- We kicked off National Preparedness month with this fun “disaster survival guide” parodying an early 2000s Nickelodeon show.
- We made sure families were ready to start the school year safely with these important tips.
- Assemblymember Steven Raga helped “Sound the Alarm” about home fires with this video PSA. Congressman Nic LaLota and Mike Lawler are up next.
- Earlier in the week, our Service to the Armed Forces team had a great time sharing important info about Red Cross programs for veterans and military families at the 5th Annual Suffolk County Veterans Resource & Stand Down Event.
- We also wished safe travels to Joe and Vivian who flew down to Florida and Bruce and Bill who drove an ERV to Alabama. You can hear Joe speaking with WCBS 880 about how the Red Cross got ready to help by prepositioning responders and equipment ahead of Tropical Storm Idalia.
