Over the last seven days, the Greater New York Red Cross has provided emergency assistance to 412 adults and 148 children following 42 local disasters. Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming activities. (See below)
Last Week in Review
- The Greater NY Red Cross is continuing to support residents displaced by the 5-alarm fire on Noble Avenue in the Bronx Sunday night.
- Great Sunday at Finkelstein Memorial Library for Prepare Spring Valley! Together we provided important fire safety information, taught lifesaving skills, and enjoyed meeting our neighbors in Spring Valley.
- Several Hudson Valley Paws for a Cause teams visited with the 417th EVCC unit before their redeployment.
- We spent Saturday commending our incredible volunteers for their life-saving service at our annual End-of-the-Year Volunteer Awards Ceremony. Congratulations to the awarded volunteers and thank you to all who attended!
- Many thanks to our community helpers from Greenwich Fire, Police, EMS, Animal Control and to our instructors for a great week of learning and fun at Safety Town and congrats to all the graduates heading to kindergarten!
- On Thursday, the Red Cross Tiffany Circle of Women Leaders of Greater New York held its annual Women Who Lead Luncheon event. It was a beautiful day at Bryant Park with our fantastic panel of women in sports. Thank you for an inspiring afternoon!
- Last Tuesday morning, News 12 Westchester and Mid Hudson News reported the Metro NY North Disaster Action Team assisted 15 individuals when fire spread through 2 multi-family buildings in Newburgh, NY.
- Blood Donation Spotlight: Originally from Tennessee, Cadet Marcus Vega is a first year at the US Military Academy Prep School at West Point, giving blood at every opportunity.
