Over the last seven days, the Greater New York Red Cross provided emergency assistance to 76 adults and 29 children following 50 local disasters. Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming activities. (See below)

- For Valentine’s Day, our Service to the Armed Forces team partnered with Bombas and fired up the ERV to head over to the Montrose VA to share some treats.
- The day before Valentine’s Day, we shared the story of volunteer couple Tom and Donna Hlenski and celebrated love and friendship within the Red Cross.
- On Friday, our CEO Mary Barneby joined volunteers who helped pack food boxes to support our partner, Feeding Westchester.
- This past week we posted a story about Jason Silva and his family, who received support and holiday spirit from the Red Cross and local community groups after a house fire.
- Last Tuesday, we congratulated our Volunteer Maria L Anguiano who received the Certificate of Merit, a prestigious American Red Cross Lifesavings Award.
- Red Cross Board Member and accomplished broadcaster Ashleigh Banfield donated blood at one of our drives.
- We are actively recruiting for licensed mental health professionals to engage with individuals and families in an attempt to mitigate the pain and suffering after disasters. For more information, please contact recruitmentgny@redcross.org.
- Feb 18: Join us for a panel discussion on Meeting the Diverse Blood Needs of Sickle Cell Patients.
- Feb 22: Tune into The Pillowcase Project, a free virtual emergency preparedness class for children (ages 7-12).
