Over the last seven days, the Greater New York Red Cross provided emergency assistance to 107 adults and 43 children following 49 local disasters. Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming activities. (See below)
Last Week in Review
- On Saturday evening, the Red Cross was featured in ABC7’s annual safety special, Operation 7: Save a Life. As part of the piece, our CEO discussed how we have adapted our work amid the pandemic to keep people safe & continue helping.
- Over the weekend, as reported by NY1, we helped families displaced by a multiple-alarm fire in Upper Manhattan.
- Last week, our teams met with nearly 100 state legislators to share stories of the incredible humanitarian work that our volunteers do every day. We capped off the week with a virtual meeting with two of our CEOs and NYS Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins.
- Last Thursday the national Red Cross hosted a live discussion with our Chief Volunteer Services Officer, Jose Dominguez. The conversation was about our most-needed volunteer opportunities and why you should get started today!
- We held two insightful presentations on how to prepare, respond, and recover from local emergencies in your community. The first presentation was co-hosted by Peekskill Mayor André Rainey and the second one was co-hosted by White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach.
