Last Week in Review

Red Cross caseworkers continued to meet with impacted residents to help them on their road to recovery. Meanwhile, volunteers were also supporting firefighters, police officers and emergency workers still at the scene.
- Early Friday morning, a fatal fire in Roosevelt (Long Island) left 10 people homeless. The Red Cross provided those affected with emergency housing and financial assistance.
- On Wednesday, Long Island Red Cross CEO John Miller, met with Suffolk County elected officials to update them on services to their districts as part of a series of roundtables with government officials.
- Last Tuesday, the Empire State Building was lit red and white in recognition of the amazing work of Red Cross volunteers in helping the community prepare for and respond to disasters like home fires.
- Also on Tuesday, as part of its Home Fire Preparedness Campaign, Red Cross volunteers partnered with FDNY to talk to residents about fire safety and install free smoke alarms in Brooklyn.
- Finally, earlier that morning, the Red Cross was called to the scene of a fire in Ossining, N.Y. Emergency assistance in the form of temporary housing, financial assistance and comfort was provided to the five affected families.
