In Case You Missed It

In the last week the Greater New York Red Cross provided emergency relief in the form of shelter, food, clothing, health services and/or emotional support to 157 New Yorkers impacted by 38 local disasters in our region. Here is a upcoming Yankees event and some highlights from the last week.

Last Week in Review

Red Crossers at fire scene in Hunts Point, Bronx

• Our volunteers spent Saturday afternoon assisting dozens of residents displaced by a 3-alarm fire that tore through their apartment building in Astoria, Queens. 
• Red Crossers were on scene in Hunts Point, Bronx for an early-morning fire on Friday. The fire was contained to a supermarket but did cause neighboring buildings to be evacuated. Our team provided water, blankets, snacks, clean-up supplies and emotional support to dozens of displaced residents.
• The Red Cross, which partnered with College of Staten Island (CSI) President Dr. William Fritz and New York State Assembly members Michael Cusick and Nicole Malliotakis, placed two relief trailers on CSI campus on Wednesday. Relief trailers are stocked with supplies such as blankets, flashlights and cleanup kits. Check out our Facebook album for highlights of the event.
• On Tuesday, our team assisted seven adults and five children (including a six-month old baby) on a fire scene in Spring Valley, Rockland County. We provided emergency relocation, financial assistance, and referrals to our community agencies. Red Crossers also gave children comfort kits to help them ease through the next few weeks.
